Walter Dean Myers is the 2012 - 2013 National Ambassador for Young People's Literature. He is the critically acclaimed New York Times bestselling author an award-winning body of work which includes, SOMEWHERE IN THE DARKNESS, SLAM!, and MONSTER. My son's book report

My son has Asperger's Syndrome and doesn't take well to extremely emotional books (like this one). I was presently surprised by his focus to read the book completely by himself and still discuss it with me prior to starting his book report. it was specific, somewhat emotional, but definitely introduced some ideas that I haven't been able to explain to my son.
I should create a list of books that my son has responded to in a positive manner!

Excellent book for my WWII unit

Excellent book for my WWII unit. I used it for the boys who absolutely refused to read Dairy of a Young Girl. I liked that it gave the point of view of a "real" soldier, with fears, wishes, needs, and expectations. Very moving.

Great book!

This book was bought for my son. Not only does he enjoy WWII, he enjoyed this book. I give it a 5 star for a great 5th-6th grader book, and great story.
